High Roller - Drinking Game Rules & How to Play
High Roller is a drinking game in the Dice Games category for 2-10 players that takes about 15-30 min with a easy difficulty level.
Highest roll wins the round
Equipment Needed
Setup
Grab two six-sided dice and place them in the center of the group. Each player should have their drink within reach, and it's best if everyone sits in a rough circle or around a table. Designate a starting player who will roll first, with turns moving clockwise from there. If you want to keep track, you can also have a notepad nearby for scoring high rolls.
How to Play High Roller
- Set up the game according to basic rules
- Players take turns or play simultaneously
- Penalties result in drinking
- Success means assigning drinks
- Continue until winner emerges
- Loser faces final penalty
- Winner earns bragging rights
- Adjust rules as needed for your group
Tips & Strategies
Shake the dice with one hand for a consistent roll, don't just drop them or slide them across the table, as complaints about 'lazy rolls' can ruin the vibe. If someone rolls a double six (12), consider it a critical hit and let them assign double the usual drinks. Keep track of who's rolling high consistently so you can gang up on them with penalties later. If you're the last roller in a round and the high roll is tied, try to psych out the person you're tied with by making bold drink assignments early.
Variations
Players can choose to roll both dice together or one at a time, but if they roll separately and the total is under 7, they must drink twice the penalty.: Instead of drinking immediately, players toss a sip from their drink into a communal cup for every penalty. The loser of the final round drinks the entire penalty pool.: Add a third die with a custom rule for rolling a 6 on it,like assigning three extra drinks to any player or skipping your next turn's penalty.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What happens if two players tie for the highest roll?
- If there's a tie for the high roll, both players roll again until one comes out on top. The loser of the tiebreaker takes an extra drink penalty.
- Can you assign drinks to yourself?
- Yes, assigning drinks to yourself is allowed, but it's usually done as a joke or when someone is overly confident about their next roll. Just remember you still have to follow through.
- What counts as a valid roll?
- A valid roll requires both dice to land flat on the playing surface. If one die lands crookedly or falls off the table, the player rolls both dice again.
- Can we increase the penalty drinks for losing?
- Yes, you can increase penalty drinks, but make sure everyone agrees first. Common tweaks include doubling the penalty for rolls under 4 or adding house rules for specific numbers.
