APT (Apartment) - Drinking Game Rules & How to Play

The viral K-pop drinking game from Rose and Bruno Mars - stack hands and count to the beat!

Equipment Needed

  • Drinks
  • The APT song (optional but recommended)

Setup

Everyone sits or stands in a circle. No equipment needed besides drinks. Playing the APT song by Rose and Bruno Mars adds to the fun but is not required.

How to Play APT (Apartment)

  1. Everyone stacks their hands in the center, one on top of another.
  2. The group chants "apateu, apateu" (apartment in Korean) to build rhythm.
  3. One person calls out a number between 1 and the number of hands in the stack.
  4. Everyone counts out loud while removing hands from the bottom and placing them on top.
  5. Whoever has their hand on top when the count reaches the called number drinks.
  6. The person who drank calls the next number and the game continues.
  7. Speed up as the game goes on for more chaos.

Tips & Strategies

Start slow to get the rhythm down. The song really does make it more fun. Watch your timing when stacking hands. Calling low numbers catches people off guard.

Variations

Some groups play where you cannot call the same number twice in a row. Others add a rule where calling your own hand means double drinks. You can also play elimination style where the last person standing wins.
