Drinking Games That Do Not Need Any Equipment
By College Beer Games Team | January 3, 2026
No cards. No cups. No ping pong balls. Just people, drinks, and these games that work anywhere.

You are at a bar. Or camping. Or at a friend place who has nothing but drinks and furniture. These are the games that save those moments.

The Word Games

Never Have I Ever

Everyone knows this one but here is the thing - it is all about the questions. "Never have I ever been to Europe" is boring. "Never have I ever lied about being sick to skip work" is where it gets good. Check out our full rules for Never Have I Ever.

Pro tip: Target your questions. If you know your buddy did something specific, phrase a question around it.

Most Likely To

Someone asks "Who is most likely to..." and on the count of three, everyone points. Whoever gets the most fingers drinks. Simple, but reveals what your friends really think about each other. See our Most Likely To rules.

Two Truths and a Lie

Everyone knows the game. The drinking version: if you guess wrong, you drink. If everyone guesses correctly, the person who told the lie drinks.

The Counting Games

Buzz

Count around the circle. Replace any number with 7 in it or divisible by 7 with "buzz." Miss it and you drink, then start over from 1.

Sounds easy. It is not easy after three rounds.

21 (Cheers to the Governor)

Count to 21 around the circle. Whoever says 21 makes a rule (like "4 is now 17" or "you have to stand for 9"). Game builds on itself until no one can keep track.

The Physical Games

Thumb Master

One person is the Thumb Master. Whenever they put their thumb on the table, everyone else has to. Last person drinks. The mind games are real.

Captain Dickhead

One person is the Captain. They can interrupt anything to make someone drink. Only way to lose it is if someone catches you not drinking with your non-dominant hand.

The Guessing Games

Name Game

Someone says a celebrity name. Next person has to say a celebrity whose first name starts with the first letter of the previous last name. "Brad Pitt" -> "Paul McCartney" -> "Michael Jordan."

Double letters (like "Ronald Reagan") reverse direction. Hesitate too long and you drink.

Categories

Pick a category. Go around naming things in it. "Types of beer" - "Lager, Pilsner, IPA..." First person who repeats, hesitates, or blanks drinks.

Why No-Equipment Games Are Underrated

No setup. No cleanup. No "where did the dice go?" moments. These games work in cabs, at bars, waiting in line. They are the Swiss Army knife of drinking games.

According to Responsibility.org, pacing yourself and knowing your limits are essential for responsible drinking.

Keep a few of these in your back pocket. You will be the one who saves the party when someone forgets to bring cards. For more equipment-free options, check out our freshman guide to college games.
