Winning 3 games quickly in the series forces your opponent to drink a lot in a short time, so focus on blocking their moves even more than setting up your own wins. Play aggressively if you notice your opponent is already tipsy,forcing them into a Cat's game (where both drink 1) is a sneaky stamina drain. If you're losing after 5 rounds, start setting traps with back-to-back moves to force them into drinking penalties while you catch up. Keep track of how much you've both had so no one finishes too strong or too fast after repeated losses.
Variations
Blitz Board: Instead of best-of-9, play on a larger 5x5 grid but still try to get 3 in a row. The winner of each 3-in-a-row scores the penalty immediately, but the game continues until the whole board is filled.. Double Trouble: Each win by 3 in a row makes the loser drink double the normal penalty, meaning 10 sips instead of 5.. Wildcard Squares: One random square on the board is assigned as a 'wildcard'; if you complete your 3-in-a-row through this square, your opponent drinks 7 instead of 5.
